La Libertad Economic Corridor covers totally or partially the Sierra provinces of the Department, among them Trujillo, Gran Chimú, Otuzco, Sánchez Carrión, Bolívar, Julcán, Santiago de Chuco, and Pataz. Its main cities are Trujillo (capital of the Region), Otuzco, Santiago de Chuco, Huamacucho, and Virú.
With a territory bathed by the powerful Marañón River and a sea enriched by the Humboldt Current, La Libertad is the only Department in Peru with three natural regions: Costa, Sierra, and Selva. It is connected by highway with Piura (415 km – 6 hours), Chiclayo (206 km – 2.5 hours), Chimbote (131 km – 2.5 hours) and Lima (557 km – 8 hours). Trujillo’s Capitán FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos International Airport receives several direct daily flights from Lima (50 minutes).
Trujillo’s weather is colder and more humid than in the rest of the region during most of the year. Drizzle and mist are common in winter and autumn. The weather in the Sierra zone (above 3,000 m.a.s.l.) is dry and mild during the day and somewhat cold at night. In this area, rainfall is heavy from January to March.
